An Igloo diamond is unlike any other diamond and not just by being physically different from any other diamond, in a manner resembling the differentiation of any two snow flakes.
Rather, an Igloo Diamond is intimately connected to piece of land which is its extension. An Igloo diamond has a footprint in the world. Almost literally. Each diamond is linked to a plot of land in Africa for which it funded its landmine-clearing.
And we put the money where our mouth is too:
We have dedicated several years to clearing the equivalent of one full minefield in Mozambique through contributions totaling $25,552.60 to "Adopt-A-Minefield" ("AAM"), an organization affiliated with the UN( read all about our collaboration with AAM).
Now, each Igloo diamond pays for clearing landmines in the African country of Angola through our new partnership with MgM ---People Against Landmines .
Angola is one of the countries that gave birth to the term "blood diamonds" and now coming to experience through us the reverse: diamonds are clearing and cleaning its landscape and rehabilitation entire communities, roads and other infrastructure components.
This is how we do it:
From each sale of an Igloo Diamond we allocate full 10% of the markup from its cost to your paid price to the cause.
Unlike other brands that support causes and boast, e.g., "5% of the profit forwarded to our supported cause"-- a contribution that relies on an accounting figure ("net Profit" or even "gross profit") that might not even materialize-- your Igloo Diamond's contribution is always real and guarantied and is deducted directly from the markup figure, a figure that is a straight forward one and cannot be manipulated by any creative accounting.
Each Igloo Diamond is issued an Igloo Diamond Certificate, and Igloo Diamond Certificate of Canadian origin, and a joint Igloo and MgM certificate indicating the location and size of plot cleared from landmines by the donation subtracted directly from the diamond's markup on its sale.
By buying an Igloo diamond you buy an ethical diamonds on several accounts:
- It is a Clean origin Diamond, mined in Canada, subject to Canadian labour standards and environmental protection legislation & deposited bonds by the miners;
- It Cleans a minefield plot in Angola;
- It parallels the requirements of the fair trade movement by being ethically produced and by allocating a premium to ameliorate conditions related to the product's production--in the case of Igloo Diamond this ameliorating occurs in Angola;
Beyond being a fashion statement, your Igloo Diamond® is a statement of social conscientiousness and care. It is a true ethical diamond. One is tempted to say «green», were it not for its colorlessness...
