The Igloo Diamonds ® brand was conceived in 2002 and launched in its Beta stage in early 2003 by a team of veteran Internet diamond dealers. In fact, a team that had initiated the world's very first dedicated Internet loose diamond dealership site back in 1995... before the launch of Yahoo and Amazon...
The underlying principle in all launches, whether the early, pre-Igloo days site «back in» 1995, or during the Igloo Beta and current launches, has been the same: a solid commitment to doing good beyond doing business.
Accordingly, the world's first diamond e-tailing initiative (1995) launched by the team behind Igloo had been conceived and perceived as the grand democratization of the very diamond product, the access to it and of the diamond purchase process. The Beta Igloo launch was in effect a pioneering promotion of ethical, Canadian origin diamonds, and the current Igloo line adds to the ethical origin the bettering of the world as well!
For this bettering of the world, the brand management decided to crown their ethical diamond branding with a new, ambitious and revolutionary extension to the brand: paying with the proceeds of each and every sale, upon affecting the sale, for the clearing of landmines in an actual designated and clearly identifiable plot within a minefield. The United Nation Association of the US «Adopt-A-Minefield» campaign has partnered with the Igloo brand in carrying out those efforts, and a most fitting destination has been jointly selected: Mozambique. A true, deeply «green» diamond brand has thus been born, reared by a major international NGO and a team of veteran Internet diamond dealing pioneers.
Through those choices, achievements and dedication to conscientious causes, the Igloo ® brand and the team behind it have proven continuously that innovative approaches and exercising social responsibility can, both, play a successful role even in a trade as conservative and averted to change as the diamond trade, and free it of the stigma of alleged social indifference and aloofness, of which many luxury products are accused.
Presently, there is only one global location for the brand: its on-line presence at www.diamonds.org and www.diamonds.ca. That's .org for a socially responsible organization, and .CA for CAnada.
