Welcome to
the home of Igloo Diamonds®.
Igloo Diamonds® is a pioneering Ethical Diamond Brand
blazing a trail of innovation and environmental & social
responsibility in the landscape of diamond sales, and most succinctly
amongst on-line, Canadian diamond sales, and in particular
with view to those who brandish ethical aspirations and claims. We have
been active in these frontiers of the "green revolution" in
our trade since our inception in 2003 and very launch in 2004 (read
more at “Company Profile”)
Now, when you buy your Igloo Diamond®, you buy a lot
more than a diamond.
A lot more than a diamond of similar characteristics and similar
«diamond 4Cs»(read more at “ Diamond
Tutorial”: The 4+2 Cs).
You are buying a precious certainty, a fulfilled
responsibility, and you better the world too.
- Your diamond is mined in Canada with the utmost regard to
the
environment, following careful environmental impact studies and the
placement of a bond in damage guaranties. It is, further, mined by
manpower enjoying high and safe labour standards.
- But your Igloo diamond does a lot more than that. Your very
diamond
pays for the clearing of a designated and enumerated plot, its very own
portion of the minefield, proportionate in size to its cost, within a
selected minefield in Mozambique, and fittingly so: a member of the
community of African nations, ridding Mozambique of the scourge of
landmines serves as a start in righting the wrong to which this
community has been subjected, and in which diamonds have unwittingly
played a role. Your Igloo Diamond® is rebuilding a ravished
community and is likely to save lives and prevent injuries in the
process. A unique diamond indeed!
An important and unique, if not unparalleled feature of Igloo
Diamonds is embodied in the fact that
unlike other diamond brands with claims to ethical status by omission,
due to the rather passive role of what they do not do
and where they are not from, Igloo diamonds present
a proactive ethical choice: they are ethical also for what
they do and for where they do it.
Another important and unique, if not unparalleled feature of Igloo
Diamonds is reflected in the fact that unlike other diamond
brands (or other consumer products) with claims to supporting
important environmental cause, that base their charitable allocations
on a token, single-digit portion from their
accounting-books-'net-profit' figure (sometimes described simply as
"profit"), which may never materialize or be very dismal, Igloo forwards its donations based on diamond-sale-by-diamond-sale basis, and straight from the markup involved in each sale, without regards to "year-end's book figure".
On this we would like to proudly elaborate.
Thus, during Phase-I of our
environmental commitment, ( read all about it at “Our Landmine
Clearing”), in a bid to accomplish the goal in reasonable period
of time, Igloo operated as a non-profit brand, passing 40% (!) from
each sale's markup towards its landmine clearing in Mozambique, thereby
practically giving up on its own profit, making use of volunteered
labour, etc.
Phase-I has been completed by
early 2009. Mission accomplished: Igloo succeeded in reaching the
goal of this phase, clearing the equivalent of substantial size
minefield in Mozambique with its total donations of $27,132.40
Forward to Phase-II: With the
full completion of Phase-I, at the end of March 2009, funds raised from
Igloo Diamond sales as of April 1st 2009 are allocated to our Phase-II. In it, Igloo has moved to a mode of operation that is more in line with its stated intention of "Not for Profit Only".
In this mode, from each diamond sold an amount equal to 10% of the
markup, again, straight from that markup, is forwarded towards mine
clearing. This allocation is equal, roughly, to 30% of the Brand's
expected net profit (based on standard and average markup and net
profit rates of on-line diamond retailing) . An unmatched high, and
clearly unparalleled allocation indeed, both in terms of the allocated
rate and in its source: the actual sale's markup.
The new mode enables us to lower our prices, our margin's share being
reduced as well, and to offer you a more competitively priced Igloo
Diamond in today's daunting economical environment, while allowing us
to cover all unchanged operational costs, better promote the brand for
better impact, and still feature an unparalleled environmental donation
level (equaling 30% of expected net profit).
Compare this unique Igloo Diamonds feature of substantial donation from your sale with 1. a much lower rate
allocated, habitually, "from profit" as is the practice by other cause
supporting brands (the likes of 5% etc., which, admittedly, is still
commended as better than nothing...), and, 2. the mode
of calculation and transfer of the donation:other brands would allocate
a donation from a pool of all sales, after being calculated and reduced
to "net profit" level, at times, very dismal amount, a result of
applying one very small percentage (the donation) to another very
small percentage (-the "profit", if any...). It's a win-win
situation to the bottom of other brands. A win-win situation for
Igloo's clients when opting for an Igloo Diamond... Your Igloo
diamond's landmine-clearing contribution is substantial, real,
guarantied and materializes in the real world.
Beyond being a fashion statement, your Igloo Diamond® is a
statement of social conscientiousness and care. It is a true ethical
diamond. One is tempted to say «green», were it not for its colorlessness...
Each Igloo Diamonds® is sent accompanied by an Igloo Diamond
Certificate attesting to its conformity to the brand's high standards
of quality and by an additional Igloo Diamond «Certificate of
Canadian Origin», attesting to its provenance from a particular,
named, diamond mining region in Canada, naming also its actual Canadian
Diamond Code-participant cutting shop, and indicating this shop's
unique Canadian origin manufacturing number assigned by it to the
diamond
